De Britse zangeres Låpsley is terug met een nieuw album: Through Water. Na een break waarin ze vooral aan haarzelf heeft gewerkt, is ze de studio weer ingedoken. Met resultaat!
In dit interview vertelt Låpsley aan 3FM-dj Vera Siemons hoe het was om haar album op dit moment uit te brengen, over hoe ze aan zichzelf heeft gewerkt en hoe ze weer is begonnen met schrijven.
Albumrelease
Je album uitbrengen in een tijd van de coronacrisis gaat anders dan wanneer je albumrelease één groot feest is. Låpsley heeft er niet minder van genoten en heeft de release van Through Water gevierd met haar familie en champagne. En vooruit: met een album release live op youtube vanuit huis!

Health issues
Na haar debuutalbum en optredens op Coachella en Glastonbury in 2016 was het even stil rondom Låpsley. Naar eigen zeggen had ze even wat time off nodig. Maar hoe was die periode voor haar? Låpsley: “I came into this at quite a young age. After the first record I was exhausted from touring and I wasn’t very well mentally. So I had to take sometime off.”
De studio in
Gelukkig nam ze die tijd en ging pas weer aan het werk toen ze er klaar voor was: "I just bought some equipment and I felt ready to do the first thing, and plug the keyboard in and the mic and just see what happens. I felt like I had to be brave even if I didn’t feel like it. And that was kinda just the first step getting back intro writing and producing."

Het eerste nummer dat ze schreef was 'Wmxn'. Omdat ze bang was om direct over zichzelf te schrijven, schreef ze het nummer vanuit haar toekomstperspectief. "I wasn’t happy at that point, but I new a future version of me would, because woman just get through shit. They somehow end up in a good space. I had that type of mentality when I was writing it. And when I sing it now as my present version, it’s like: all it takes is a bit of time.”
