ABBA-invloeden op nieuwe album van Gossip

Gossip-frontvrouw Beth Ditto onthulde aan The Guardian dat ABBA een grote invloed heeft gehad op het album A Joyful Noise dat deze maand uitkomt.

De heren en dame van Gossip brengen 14 mei hun vijfde album ‘A Joyful Noise’ uit. Zangeres Beth Ditto vertelde The Guardian dat ze het jaar dat ze aan het nieuwe album werkte praktisch non-stop naar ABBA heeft geluisterd.

Het totale gebrek aan rauwheid in de popliedjes van de Zweedse groep spreek Beth zo aan.

“That's the thing about Abba. There is zero rawness. That's so incredible to me. I think I'm really infatuated with that right now because that's not the music I usually listen to. It never caught my attention before.”

Mark Ronson en country

De invloed van ABBA zal zeker terug te horen zijn op het album, maar ook andere stijlen komen aan bod. Gossip werkte onder andere met producer Mark Ronson samen. Over de samenwerking met hem zei Beth tegen NME:

"One of our most common bonds was that we both loved big voices, church voices. He loves country music, which is a big deal to me because, you know, in terms of things I love, country music is probably number one, then it's punk and hip-hop."
