Black Keys noemt Sean Parker 'asshole'

The Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney vertrouwt Spotify's Sean Parker niet. 'Sean Parker Made Billions Stealing from Artists...'

Als The Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney ergens een mening over heeft, dat laat hij dat ook weten. Het is duidelijk dat hij, op z'n zachts gezegd, niets heeft met Nickelback. Maar ook Sean Parker, de oprichter van Napster die nu in het bestuur van Spotify zit, staat absoluut niet op zijn lijstje van favoriete mensen.

Spotify over twee jaar groter van iTunes?

Carney en Black Keys-zanger/gitarist Dan Auerbach hebben niet zo veel vertrouwen in Spotify. In een recent interview met WGRD blijkt dat voor een deel door Sean Parker te komen. Parker had eerder op het South By South West festival in Austin Texas gezegd dat Spotify over twee jaar groter is dan iTunes. Op de vraag of hij Parker gelooft, is Carney heel stellig: 'No'.

'he's an asshole'

De drummer is wat uitgebreider in zijn antwoord op de vraag waarom niet. Hij vertrouwt Parker voor geen cent. "Because he's an asshole. The guy has $2.5 billion he made from figuring out ways to steal royalties from artists, and that's the bottom line. You can't really trust anybody like that."

Carney heeft niets tegen streaming service

Het duo is niet tegen een 'streaming service', maar het moet wel eerlijk zijn voor de muzikanten. Die moeten er ook aan verdienen, niet alleen de Sean Parkers en de platenmaatschappijen.

"So that's what they're doing. 66 plays will get a 12-cent royalty. But then that goes to the label, and part of that is paid out to the artist from that. You can't make money on that - trust me - Dan and I like to make money. If it was fair to the artist we would be involved in it, but it's not.

Carney heeft wel iets tegen Sean Parker

Carney's afkeer van Sean Parker zit blijkbaar diep, ook daarom wil hij niet dat Spotify een succes wordt. "I honestly don't want to see Sean Parker succeed in anything. I imagine if Spotify becomes something that people are willing to pay for, then I'm sure iTunes will just create their own service, and they're actually fair to artists."
