John Mayer eert J.J. Cale op nieuw album

Op John Mayers nieuwe album Paradise Valley verschijnt een cover van de onlangs overleden zanger J.J. Cale.

John Mayer speelde zaterdag 27 juli het nummer 'Call Me The Breeze' van J.J. Cale tijdens een optreden in Irvine, Californië en maakte bekend dat de cover op zijn nieuwe album Paradise Valley staat.

J.J. Cale overleden aan hartaanval

De Amerikaanse zanger J.J. Cale overleed 26 juli op 74-jarige leeftijd aan een hartaanval. John Mayer werkte eerder met J.J. Cale en Eric Clapton aan het album The Road To Escondido, dat weer een ode aan de soulmuzikant Billy Preston was.

John Mayer zei tijdens het optreden in Irvine onder meer vereerd te zijn dat hij ooit met J.J. Cale mocht werken:

"I woke up to learn very sadly that the world of music and guitar playing lost an incredibly musician, writer, guitar player and singer. Mister J.J. Cale. I had the pleasure and honour working with him. It just so happens, not really a coincident 'cause this song is so great, that this is actually a J.J. Cale song that is on the Paradise Valley record coming out. We thought it would be a fitting tribute to a fantastic guitar player, and a guy who really lived his life under the spotlight. So we send this out to the memory of J.J. Cale."

Paradise Valley uit op 16 augustus

Paradise Valley is het zesde studioalbum van John Mayer en verschijnt op 16 augustus. Op de opvolger van het uit 2012 afkomstige Born And Raised staan elf nummers, waaronder de single 'Paper Doll' en het nummer 'Dear Marie'.
