- Tom Morello wil Occupy Austin tijdens SXSW
Als het aan Tom Morello van Rage Against The Machine ligt, krijgt Occupy Austin vrijdag (16 maart 2012) een nieuwe impuls tijdens het South By South West festival.
Tom Morello is een van de meest actieve beroemdheden die de Occupy-beweging steunt. Occupy begon afgelopen herfst in New York als Occupy Wallstreet en kreeg al snel bijval in steden over de hele wereld. De protestbeweging is inmiddels behoorlijk afgezwakt, maar de Rage Against The Machine-gitarist wil het een nieuwe impuls geven.
Tom Morello geeft Occupy boost op SXSW
Morello is vrijdag (16 maart) in Austin waar hij een van de showcases host tijdens South By South West (SXSW). Daar wil hij de beweging een nieuwe boost geven, vertelde hij aan Rolling Stone.
"SXSW has a lot of specialty shows - record companies, vodka companies, promoters and things like that. I thought it was important that at a music gathering of that size, to have a place where the rebels, revolutionaries, rockers, rappers and the 99 per cent could gather and have a mighty SXSW throw down."
Plannen van Morello en Occupy Austin
De gitarist heeft een aantal weken geleden al contact gehad met de plaatselijke Occupy-beweging. Hij heeft de leiders van Occupy Austin gevraagd hoe hij ze kon helpen.
"I basically said, 'What do y'all want to do, how can I best serve?' and so they made a wish list of things and I was able to say yes to, ironically, about 99 per cent of them.
Flashmob party
De beweging is van plan op een flashmob danceparty te houden die eindigt bij de SXSW-locatie die Morello host.
"Their intention is to have this flash mob dance party that's going to arrive at the venue. Due to the fact that it's an official SXSW show, a lot of the space inside is reserved for badge holders, but there will certainly be a healthy Occupy presence in the venue, and also a contingent outside the venue. I promise you, they will all be served musically."
SXSW en 3FM
SXSW is een groot showcasefestival in de Amerikaanse stad Austin. 3FM heeft Michiel en Roosmarijn naar het festival gestuurd. Zij zijn daar deze week (van 12 tot en met 17 maart) om verslag voor je te doen.
