Waarom? Yannis: "I wanted to really be bored again, go back home and feel domestic again. I went to Greece a lot, did a lot of gardening, spent time with my girlfriend and cat, read a lot of books... But music was the last thing on my mind. I didn't play the guitar once! It was the first time since I was about 13 years old that I didn't want to do that. It was almost scary if that desire would ever come back, but it did."

Die pauze hielp het schrijfproces voor Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost heel goed.

Yannis: "I felt inspired, I was just writing a lot of music and we connected well as a band. Lyrically, I had a lot to write about with what's going on in the world. We just got to complete all the ideas that we went in with!"

3 liedjes

'In Degrees'
"This one is made for the dancefloor! In Paradiso people will be rubbing bodies when we play this, they'll have real human contact. Yet the song is about losing human contact, losing touch with a relationship that you're in."

'Exits'
"I had a visual landscape for the song, which looked like a subterranean world where people are imprisoned by things that we face in real life. Things like surveillance, the lack of nature and the idea that the environment is your enemy now, that it poses a threat."

'Sunday'
"We wrote this at the time of What Went Down, but it didn't come together. It feels right that it didn't make the previous record, it has really come together for this one. The song builds up to an ecstatic moment, but the lyrics are darker than the song! It captures a lot of anxieties we have about the future, I wanted to mix the apocalyptic with the euphoric."

Yannis' eigen favoriet

'I'm Done With The World (& It's Done With Me)' is de persoonlijke favoriet van Yannis op dit moment.

"I could see the fox was limping, it had something of a broken leg. The RSPCA (de Engelse dierenbescherming) didn't really have an answer how I could help it. So I threw some food on the shed and I went to the studio. I immediately sang the song as it is now, we haven't altered the lyrics since. We wanted to close the album with this, because album two starts with a bang. It's a contrast, so 'I'm Done With The World' completes this chapter well."
